Curriculum Information

At St Peter’s CE Academy, our curriculum is designed to provide a broad and balanced education, which meets the needs of all children. It is underpinned by our Christian vision and values, nurturing all children to flourish and grow.

At St. Peter’s CE Academy, we follow the National Curriculum, which identifies the subjects, the skills and the content to be taught to children. The content is carefully sequenced to ensure that it is cohesive and progressive across Key Stage 2. Our curriculum sequence on a page is broken down per year group to the right of this page.

As part of our curriculum offer and wider learning experiences, such as collective worship, we actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We firmly believe that the spiritual, moral, cultural and social development of our pupils is a vital part of their preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

We use CUSP (Curriculum with Unity Schools Partnership) as a base curriculum for Science, History, Geography and Art. CUSP is designed to be:

• ‘Connected’
• ‘Cumulative’
• ‘Coherent’

CUSP is underpinned by evidence, research and cognitive science. Modules are deliberately sequenced for robust progression and allows teachers to focus on the lesson.

There is an emphasis on oracy and vocabulary acquisition, retention and use to break down learning barriers and accelerate progress. A rich diet of language and vocabulary is deliberately planned for.

A member of the teaching team oversees each curriculum subject area. Each subject lead has an individual action plan for their subject(s) which is reviewed every full term.
