Year 3 – St. George – Miss Innes
Spring Term Curriculum
Welcome to Year 3.
This term the children in year 3 are learning about the amazing author Jeannie Baker. She is an Australian author and artist who has produced a range of books for children.
As part of the topic, the children will research Australia, its physical and human features, make comparisons between the climate there and in the UK whilst also studying some of its native animals and birds. We will also explore aboriginal artwork and produce our own examples of this. New topic books will be introduced in order for the children to present their work with more independence and creativity.
Within English we will be learning the story of Molly and the Giant which is a meeting story. In maths we will continue to concentrate on multiplication and division and then move on to looking at statistics where the children will look at pictograms, bar charts and be able to interpret data.
There are a few more exciting opportunities that we are currently working on setting up for year 3 and we hopefully will be able to update you in the coming weeks!
We look forward to seeing the work that the children produce! Here’s to another fun packed term.
Miss Innes and Miss Meminger
All children are expected to read regularly every week to an adult; each time they read, they will receive raffle tickets. When they have read 5 times, they will receive raffle tickets and a merit, which will count towards their house. Other prizes for reading will be given in class throughout the year.
Could you please ensure that your child brings their home/school planner in to school every day. Please feel free to write any comments in it.
Every Friday your child will bring their planner home which will have been signed by their teacher. This should be countersigned by the parent/carer and returned to school again on Monday morning. Children will receive a merit for planners that have been signed when returned on Monday.
