Year 3 – St. George – Miss Innes
September 2019 Curriculum
Welcome to Year 3! The children have settled in extremely well at St Peters and we are all enjoying learning about our brand new topics.
We are looking at warning stories in English and we have been studying Pie Corbett’s ‘The Caravan.’ We have explored this story and learned it off by heart and are now building up to writing our own warning story.
In Maths we have been learning about place value and we are moving on to addition and subtraction, using a variety of concrete and written methods. We will also continue to practice our 2,5 and 10 times tables before moving on to our 3’s,4’s and 8’s. The children have been working really hard on times tables in school so a big well done to them.
Geography this term will see us exploring the structure of the Earth, before moving on to studying climate and extreme types of weather. Our science lessons have a focus on the seasons, considering changes in temperature and weather. Our art topic this term focuses on Claude Monet and the children have loved learning about him, and then replicating some of his most famous paintings. We will also be creating our own artwork in his style!
I am looking forward to many more opportunities for learning and fun over the next few weeks. Here is to a successful and busy term.
All children are expected to read regularly every week to an adult; each time they read, they will receive raffle tickets. When they have read 5 times, they will receive raffle tickets and a merit, which will count towards their house. Other prizes for reading will be given in class throughout the year.
Could you please ensure that your child brings their home/school planner in to school every day. Please feel free to write any comments in it.
Every Friday your child will bring their planner home which will have been signed by their teacher. This should be countersigned by the parent/carer and returned to school again on Monday morning. Children will receive a merit for planners that have been signed when returned on Monday.
