Curriculum

Throughout the Autumn term, Year 3 Maths will comprise of place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division. In English the whole school is looking at ‘Here We Are’ as our opening text. Following this, Year 3 will look at writing a set of instructions.

The Year 3 topic work will focus on the Stone Age and how this developed into the Iron Age. We will also explore a separate art topic looking at cave paintings and creating artwork using a silhouette technique centred around Stonehenge.

In Science this term our topic is rocks. The children will be exploring a range of rocks and looking at the formation of fossils, underpinned by stories. After October half term, they will be studying animals including humans, exploring food and our bodies.

In Religious Education, Year 3 are learning about the Creation story, and what Christians believe. After half term, we will move on to exploring the Fall, and the story of Adam and Eve. There will also be plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate during these sessions along with our PSHE sessions focusing on Being Me In My World and Celebrating Differences.

In our ICT lessons, Year 3 will be learning how computer systems and networks operate including the safe use of the internet.

Our new music lessons look at specific songs: our first one is called ‘Let your Sprit fly’. After this, we will be learning how to use glockenspiels to support their music. In French they will be learning core vocabulary and key phrases in French.

In PE, Year 3 will work on developing our coordination and focusing on our footwork and different ways of travelling. We will be working on the Personal challenge cog of the Real PE scheme.

Reading:

All children are expected to read regularly every week to an adult; each time they read, they will receive raffle tickets.  When they have read 5 times, they will receive raffle tickets and a merit, which will count towards their house.  Other prizes for reading will be given in class throughout the year.

Home/School Planner:

Could you please ensure that your child brings their home/school planner in to school every day. Please feel free to write any comments in it.

Every Friday your child will bring their planner home which will have been signed by their teacher. This should be countersigned by the parent/carer and returned to school again on Monday morning. Children will receive a merit for planners that have been signed when returned on Monday.
