Class Blog – January 2019

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope that you had a fantastic Christmas break. It is now time for school again and we have lots planned in the coming term.

We will be looking at a range of non-chronological reports in English and writing our own, based on mythical creatures. Poetry is an area that will be covered this term too and this will allow the children to be more creative

In maths we will be looking at multiplication and division using a variety of concrete and written methods. Then moving on to using money and measures. We will also continue to practice our 2,3,4,5,8 and 10 times tables. The children have been getting very good at this, so a huge well done to them all.

History this term will see us research The Vikings. Who they were, where they came from, language, art and our DT topic will see us designing long boats too. Other subject areas are science, where we will be focusing on plants and then sound. In March, to celebrate National Science Week, we have a planned science day and some very special visitors coming into school.

I am looking forward to another term with the children along with many more opportunities for learning with some fun added in too!

All children are expected to read regularly every week to an adult; each time they read, they will receive raffle tickets.  When they have read 5 times, they will receive raffle tickets and a merit, which will count towards their house.  Other prizes for reading will be given in class throughout the year.

Home/School Planner

Could you please ensure that your child brings their home/school planner in to school every day. Please feel free to write any comments in it.

Every Friday your child will bring their planner home which will have been signed by their teacher. This should be countersigned by the parent/carer and returned to school again on Monday morning.
