Class Blog – 4th September 2018

Welcome to St George!  I hope that you have had a fantastic summer holiday, rested, played and enjoyed some time out with family and friends. It is now time for school and we have lots planned for you in the coming term.

We will be reading ‘Leon and the place between’ in our English lessons and using the text to engage and enthuse the children to write their own adventure stories. Alongside this we will be using many short stories to encourage a love of reading and help us to use skills to infer and identify story plots, twists and language features.

In maths we will be looking at place value and using a variety of concrete and written methods. We will also be practising our times tables starting with recapping the 2, 5 and 10’s then moving on in the following weeks to include the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

History this term has a focus on our local area. We will be researching and finding out who lived in Raunds and the surrounding area in the past, from the Stone Age to present day. We will include in this some aspects of art work and geography.

Other subject areas are science, where we will be focusing on rocks and taking part in the planning and carrying out of investigations. We will start learning some basic French phrases and I am sure the children will enjoy our Jigsaw PSHE lessons. Let’s not forget some fun PE lessons too and much more.

We have lots to do and I am looking forward to an exciting and fun packed term!

All children are expected to read regularly every week to an adult; each time they read, they will receive raffle tickets.  When they have read 5 times, they will receive raffle tickets and a merit, which will count towards their house.  Other prizes for reading will be given in class throughout the year.

Home/School Planner

Could you please ensure that your child brings their home/school planner in to school every day. Please feel free to write any comments in it.

Every Friday your child will bring their planner home which will have been signed by their teacher. This should be countersigned by the parent/carer and returned to school again on Monday morning.
